At San Diego Relationship Center, Inc., we understand the devastating impact trauma and toxic stress can have on individuals and their relationships. Whether you experienced childhood or adult onset trauma, or are struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Dr. Gregory E. Koch has over 20 years of experience helping clients recover from trauma and restore and reconnect with their aliveness. Dr. Koch is here to help you on your healing journey.
Why trauma treatment?
Trauma and toxic stress can have profound and lasting effects on a person's mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Unresolved trauma may lead to a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and physical health issues. For example, the research suggests that the more childhood trauma one experiences, the more physical health problems they are likely to experience in adulthood. This is because the body and the mind are really one entity, deeply and inextricably interconnected. It is crucial to address unresolved trauma and work towards healing in order to restore a sense of safety, trust, and well-being in one's life. Whether the trauma is related to a single event, such as an accident or assault, repeated abuse, or is the result of ongoing exposure to bias and discrimination, seeking professional help is essential.
Cultural Bias and Discrimination
Dr. Gregory E. Koch has extensive experience in working with individuals affected by trauma related to exposure to bias and discrimination, providing a supportive and validating environment to address these unique challenges. Beginning in 1998, Dr. Koch worked in the area of trauma treatment as part of the research arm of the Women’s Resilience Program, which worked with severely traumatized women. His doctoral research was focused on the experiences of survivors of hate crime. In the intervening years he counseled traumatized children, survivors of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families, and BIPOC coping with systemic racism, to name a few. Dr. Koch has focused his research and clinical training on learning to help those dealing with sexism, racism, inequity, heterosexism, homophobia, transphobia, hate crime…the list goes on. Dr. Koch deeply understands the impact cultural bias and discrimination has on our functioning and has the experience to help heal those wounds.
